Sometimes silence can shout to the soul. I am fully convinced that as we march deeper and deeper into into a society that moves at a pace so quick that light has to catch up to it, we will find ourselves longing more and more to disconnect from the chaos and enjoy a dose of peace and quiet now and then. After all, we are told in scripture that we humans are created with an inward desire to know our Eternal Creator (Ecclesiastes 3:11). No wonder then that the more the hustle and bustle of everyday life presses in upon us the more we desire to squeeze out of its grip and into a place of silence, serenity, and solitude. For me and so many others, that place is in the outdoors. Whether in a tree stand, on a boat deck, along a hiking trail, or around a campfire, the outdoors can be a prime locale for an appointment with the only One who can soothe the longing in the heart for something more than the rat-race and routine of a runaway culture.
My goal in these posts is to relate real-life outdoor occurrences to a timeless Biblical principle in an effort to give us some glimpses of God in the great outdoors. The Lord has been known to use burning bushes, talking donkeys, and a host of other unlikely methods to communicate his love to humans that needed to experience it. My prayer is that He will use these writings to bring a just-what-I-needed-at-just-the-right-time experience to any random sets of eyes that may glimpse over the thoughts contained. Now, as the Apostle Paul exclaimed to the Ephesian believers so long ago, “Now unto Him who is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all that we ask or think…to Him be glory.” (Ephesians 3:20-21) See you in the great outdoors!
